Course Structure:

Week One: Meet Your Hero

• Days 1-2: Engage in discussions about your hero. Kids love to talk about their favorite characters!
• Days 3-4: Dive into an overview of the Hero’s Journey. This session focuses on comfortable idea exploration (we avoid the word “brainstorming”).

Week Two: Plot Twist

• Part 3: Transport your hero to an unfamiliar world and form new alliances. Kids will jot down ideas in a relaxed, pressure-free environment.

Week Three: Hero’s Holiday

• Part 4: Send your characters on what seems to be a lovely vacation. When things go awry, they must find new ways to problem-solve without their usual powers. Organize carefully, and write a draft focusing on creativity rather than perfection.

Week Four: Weaving the Tale

• Part 5: Combine your favorite elements from the past weeks into a cohesive story. Conclude by resolving the central conflict and reflecting on the transformation of the character and their world. Use previous drafts to showcase character growth and challenges.

Flexible Learning: Kids can work 3 or 4 days a week, depending on what works best for your family. We understand life happens, so we aim to make writing fun and manageable, not overwhelming.

Encouraging Creativity: Throughout the course, students are encouraged to get their ideas down quickly. We highly recommend using voice-to-text technology to keep the flow going, bypassing the usual hang-ups of spelling and punctuation. Teens can also choose to type or handwrite their work, whatever you prefer for your family!
