While homeschooling her son all the way to college, Brenda Lane began developing WriteShop's online tutoring system in 2002. Then, her step-daughter Monica joined in this venture. Brenda holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Bible from Azusa Pacific University. While there, she served as copy editor for the newspaper and as a teaching assistant in the English department. She has nearly completed her M.S. in Nutrition at Cal Poly University, Pomona. She has taught at both Orange Coast and Riverside Community Colleges.
Brenda, a city girl whose mother taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Saskatchewan, Canada, learned to care for a retired racehorse, a merino sheep “Pretty Lamb,” numerous chickens, and a family of dogs and cats. One the things Brenda loves about homeschooling is the flexibility to travel with her family, so they have visited all but two continents. Australia and Antarctica are still on the wish list.
When Brenda’s hands are not on the keyboard, she knits socks and gloves or draws animals. She does her daily Sudoku and Set game puzzle. Most importantly, she volunteers with a non-profit group that trains clergy who ride along as chaplains with police and fire departments, and others who serve in hospitals.
